Kompiam Hospital had been running on 20 KW of solar power with 1600 AHr of batteries for a number of years. The batteries were getting “TIRED” and the hospital had expanded by two buildings – Maternity and Critical Care. PowerQuest WorldWide, installed an additional 80 KW of solar capacity and tripled the Battery inverter power and quadrupled the battery capacity. The system were split between the residences and the hospital. The hospital now has 24 hour power and uses only 25% of the battery capacity. The residences have power from 7 AM to 10 PM each day. Hopefully everybody is sleeping the other hours. The Governor of the providence and delegates from the Australian High Commission came to dedicate the system along with the Critical Care building. They were extremely impressed.
The last piece of the OFF GRID solar power project at Zimba Hospital was to rewire the power distribution panel to include the Maternity, Neonatal, and administration buildings.
A project is really never really finished. We will be travelling to Galmi Hospital to complete the additional piping requested to the piped Medical Gas System we installed this past few months. In addition, we will be recommissioning an OUTBACK Power systems Battery Backup system.
The Cure International Hospital in Dominican Republic was forced to close its doors this past year. I travelled ter to remove the X-Ray equipment I installed just two years prior. The equipment was shipped to the Cure International Hsoptial in Uganda. I will be travelling there to reinstall the equipment.
Noah, Ryan and I installed 20 medical gas O2 outlets including all the piping spanning through three buildings and connecting walk ways. The complete system included an On Site Gas O2 Concentrator and Rix high pressure pump for filling H cylinders.
Earlier this year I when to El Sembrador to install a solar system to augment the electrical power production. While I was there I determined that the hydro plant was not behaving properly due to wear on rotating bearing surfaces. The plant has been in operation for 28 years. They removed the plant and shipped it back to the manufacturer in Germany for repairs and upgrades. We will need ot return to EL Sembrador to install it again and commission the electronics.
We just completed the installation 40 KW of solar power at Zimba Mission Hospital. Even though the Electrical Power From ZESCO the local utility has been fairly stable recently, last year they had rolling outages for 8 hours a day at different times of the day. They were struggling to pay the diesel fuel bill to continue to run the hospital. The hospital serves the population of about 50 miles radius. The solar system allow the hospital to run off grid except for 2 hours during the night insuring clean reliable power during the day.
The pictures below are the existing Automatic Transfer switch installed at the hospital about two years ago. The motorized mechanism has failed several times and the entire switch needs to be replaced. We will also be installing two more battery banks for the battery inverters to supply power during power outages which are becoming more frequent.
Partners in Hope Hospital is one of the largest facilities in Malawi working with HIV/AIDS patients providing laboratory, x-ray and medicine therapy. The sensitive medical devices at the hospital requires continuous power which the national utility cannot provide at this time. We are in the process of supplying solar and battery backup equipment for the facility.
Radio Hope is an FM radio station serving the surrounding areas of Mango Togo. It is located near the Hospital of Hope facility. We will be installing 30 KW of solar and battery backup equipment to assure the radio station can broadcast around the clock.
